💜Don’t take this personally [FIRST NAME GOES HERE]…

Hey Reader!

Mini update: the Gremlin’s first week of daycare went great!

There was only some mild separation anxiety, and he was so excited to tell us all about it afterwards!

Last week felt so freeing for me too! It was way less stressful, and I actually got to have a more normal workday again!

I think we’re both going to love daycare! lol

Another thing I’ve loved is our summer series! Today is the last episode, so let me know what we should cover next!

Top Things Killing Your Hybrid Races

Ep.11 - Taking Your L’s Personally

The only Deka Strong I ran this year was a great example.

I hadn’t done much Deka prep going in, but wanted to put a time on the leaderboard in early season anyway.

So cold turkey I jumped into a Strong and it was rough.

I was in an awful headspace and couldn’t shake it.

I had a few big bobbles throughout the race and clocked in 50 seconds behind my PR (which for me is pretty slow).

And even though I knew it was just an early season shake-out run, I took that L personally.

Separating Outcome from Performance

Sometimes we have races that you’re just disappointed in, and that’s ok.

Take a day or 2 to sit with it and feel bummed but then take a step back.

THIS is the defining mark of real athletes.

Some people allow those moments of failure to define them; they get discouraged or even give up & move on.

Real athletes take those failures, feel them, then look for how they can learn and grow.

I learned a whole lot from that bad Deka Strong, especially on the mental prep side.

So, the next time I hit the start line, my mindset was way more solid because I’d taken the time to analyze that race and learn from it.

Every race no matter the outcome is an opportunity to get data and learn how to improve your taper, nutrition, mindset, strategy, training, and team communication.

A bad race doesn’t define you.

A bad day doesn’t mean you’re not a good athlete.

Your race outcome doesn’t define your abilities or potential.

How you respond, learn, and implement that growth in your training is the first step in becoming a stronger and more resilient athlete.

Getting into the Learning Mindset

Ok, I know, that’s way easier to read than it is to implement in real life!

I’ll be honest that Strong was super hard for me personally, and if I hadn’t already built a habit of looking for the lessons, it would’ve been super hard to overcome.

To stop focusing on the losses, you have to start finding the lessons in training first.

After a bad workout, practice looking for something you can learn from it.

During your next sim, just run for practice, to collect data, and see what you can improve on.

Instead of mulling over the past, having a growth mindset sets you up for longevity in sport and keeps you focused on how you can improve in the future.

Knee Update...

81 days (11 weeks) post ACL reconstruction surgery!

  • I’m back to a lot of basic daily functioning, which is kinda deceptive. I feel pretty normal most days… until I start bending my knees. Other people see me getting around really well too and assume I’m back to normal, but the reality is I still have a long way to go.
  • With some new PT exercises + some weather fronts moving through, 4/7 days this week were rough for both knees. (Yes, lefty still feels it too! Especially now with all the compensating)
  • Some days I’m starting to feel strong again, others I struggle to get off the couch. It’s a day-by-day process, but I’m still taking it one step at a time.

That’s all I’ve got today!

I would really love to see you in the Deka Strategy Webinar next month though!
