💜All Day Every Day… Right?

Hey Reader!

TOMORROW IS 2 MONTHS POST OP!! (8.5 weeks technically☝🏼)

Crazy how time is flying by this summer!!

That means racing is heating up too with just 8 weeks left in Deka qualifying season!

(So make sure you’re not making this mistake!)

Top Things Killing Your Hybrid Races

Ep8 - All Day Erry Day

Story time!

You find a hybrid race, so you start training for it, right?

Every day you go to the gym and do all the stations to practice.

But after a week or two, your shoulder flares up or your knee starts hurting.

You’re super fatigued and start to feel exhausted all the time.

If that sounds familiar, this one’s for you!

Don’t train ALL the race moves EVERY day.

Race moves are demanding on the body & if you do them every single day, it’ll wear you down.

It’s good to practice the form so you can lock down movement efficiency, but if you only practice race moves day in, day out, you’ll fizzle out.

Your body needs more than 8-10 movements to be well rounded & there’s a LOT of great general lifting & conditioning we can do to improve general athleticism throughout the year.

As you’re moving toward your event...

  • 3 months out sprinkle race moves on 2-3 days & shift cardio toward the race demands (keep the 80/20 rule in mind to balance intensity & recovery!).
  • Gradually get more race specific closer to the event (weight, reps, pace, intensity)
  • 4-6 weeks out start sharpening form, transitions, and run a few sims.

Then after the race, take a break!

Go back to general training or move on to your next race goal (like shifting from Hyrox to Deka prep)

Even the elites don’t train race specific work year-round!

There are phases of athletic seasons for a reason (off-season, pre-season, in-season, post-season), no matter what level of athlete you are, take that page from the playbook!

Let’s train smarter, not harder!

Knee Update...

60 days post ACL reconstruction (8 weeks)

  • My ROM is great! I’m almost heel to butt!!
  • Strength is feeling good too, I’m moving up in weights slowly but steadily
  • I’m gaining confidence without the brace around the house, but still wearing it in public.
  • Week 9-11 is supposed to be a vulnerable phase for my graft when the body is breaking down & integrating it into the knee, so I need to be careful and not get too excited the next couple weeks!
  • Mentally it’s been overwhelming and a total roller coaster the last month, but (being transparent) I started therapy this week and I’m excited to start that journey.

I’ve got something super fun cooking for August, so stay tuned for the drop next week!🤩
