The Gremlin got so much candy last weekend from trunk or treats & fall festivals, we skipped the trick or treating this year.
And we were going to do a local ren faire with him yesterday… but I woke up with a bad stomach bug, so no cute baby pics this week!
(I'm feeling much better today, but staying home to recoup)
We’ll try again for the ren faire next weekend, so maybe you’ll get some cute hobbit pics in the next Fit Tips!
But about that new job…
Building a Ferrari 101
Story time!
I got a job on Ferrari’s production line.
(JK! All my car knowledge comes from Top Gear & Grand Tour… so that’s not much! LOL)
Let’s say at the end of each production phase I added a few nuts & bolts or made a few changes that I thought looked super cool.
By the time my car was done, how do you think its performance was?
Not how the engineers had intended! That’s for sure!
A Ferrari is a super car that’s engineered for performance to the tiniest detail.
Adding extra parts totally messed up its performance potential.
So how does this relate to fitness Katie?
If your coach gives you 5+ workouts a week, there’s not much wiggle room.
Your coach has strategically designed your programming so you can maximize performance.
Let’s say if a workout or set isn’t “hard enough” you add…
- a few reps to each set
- an extra round or
- more burpees after your workout.
It changes the careful planning and intention of the workout.
And done consistently over time changes the overall performance outcome.
(Changing things or missing a workout once or twice won’t hurt you but doing it all the time is problematic.)
Not every workout needs to be full throttle.
You should leave some workouts still feeling fresh.
Easy means easy.
Hard means hard.
We need both in training to create the engine and performance we want.
BUT of course, you still want flexibility and autonomy in your training!
Then adapt/add things in productive ways…
- modifications
- pre/rehab work and
- auto regulating your load/pace based on your available energy that day (RPE)
- increase rest between sets/rounds/circuits
And honestly when you’re able to show up, put in the work, and trust the plan there’s almost a freeing feeling.
You don’t have to stress over constantly tweaking things or worrying if you’re doing enough.
Trust the process. Trust your coach.
Consistency over time yields the best results.
I think that so many people could benefit from a coach (coaches included!). It lets you show up as the athlete and focus on yourself without micromanaging your training. If that’s you and you want to finish 2026 strong, I have a few coaching spots still available this year in Hybrid Strength! Let’s jump on a coaching call and see if its right for you!
Knee Update...
I’m 23 weeks post ACL reconstruction!
- This has been a crazy week on the personal side, so honestly haven’t given my knee much thought, just been hitting the grind and working on it like normal.
- My PT did pull back on the running (bummer!) because my knee’s been sticky this week again. So, the sticky saga continues! Yay🥴
And no, I didn’t actually get a new job.
Lord knows you do not want me making cars!!
Muscles are definitely more my jam🤘🏼
BUT did you know the new Grand Tour is out on Prime?! The new hosts are so funny! Definitely worth a watch!
